So I really like sweet bean desserts which is popular all over Asia. So much that when it’s in drink form, I get excited and must have it! Yesterday I had this drink consisting of mung beans and…KADSURA FRUIT. I had no idea what 娜果 was until I googled the characters. Apparently it’s a fruit native to Japan, and looks like this:
You peel apart the individual chunks and it’s kind of like large pomegranate seeds. I’ve never seen this fruit in person so I’m not sure how popular it is.
Anyway, the drink was really refreshing. Apparently in Taiwan, mung beans are part of summer desserts while red beans are for winter desserts. I liked this drink because there were actual mung beans in it, and was light in sweetness. Some drinks are so sweet that they make me want to drink water which defeats the purpose of a drink, but this one wasn’t one of them.
It was really liquidy, not thick at all and had a water-ish taste in the way water apples are juicy. That’s how I imagine kadsura fruit to be. It was also slightly bitter, just enough to barely notice it.
Overall I really liked this, and this is actually maybe my 3rd time having this drink! So I would definitely get it again. It’s also really filling so it could count as a dessert.
