Hi world, I’m back.
Yes, I only have 3 months left in Taiwan. But better late than never right? Perhaps the little time I have left finally hit me and pushed me to start up this blog again.
紅茶烏龍奶, or black and oolong tea milk, completely blew me away my tastebuds today. I was looking for a bit of caffeine after the gym and before Chinese class, but didn’t want to get coffee since it was already 6pm. What led me to this drink was its pretty packaging and the fact that it was in the “new arrivals” section at 7/11.
This drink is one of many from 純萃喝, Pure Collection Drinks. They have an array of coffees, lattes, and milk teas that I am excited to try for future blog posts.
Taste: At first I expected this to taste like a sweet milk tea, but the bottle would have been labled 奶茶. Notice that the black and oolong tea come first in its name, which corresponds to the proportions. It’s tea flavored milk, not milk flavored tea. So this did not taste like any milk tea I’ve had before, and maybe I shouldn’t have gone into it thinking it’d be milk tea. But all in all, it tastes pretty dang good guys.
True to Flavor: The mixture of black and oolong tea provided a unique and refreshing flavor! I love tea, but had never mixed black and oolong tea together before. It made for a very strong tea flavor. The only strange thing was that it did not smell like what it tasted. It kind of smells like it would be salty; for some reason I thought of pretzels (am I homesick?), but it wasn’t salty.
Sweetness: If you aren’t into drinks that are high in sugar, you should try this. There’s a bit of sugar, but still a hint of bitterness from the tea that makes a great combination of contrasting flavors.
Caffeine level: So I take Chinese class from 6:30 to 8:20pm, and usually start yawning around 7:50 (yes I’m that precise). Like I said earlier, I didn’t want to drink anything that had too much caffeine, since it was evening. This drink held me together until 8:10, which was good enough. So if you just need a little kick, this will do it if you aren’t an avid coffee drinker.
Would I buy it again? Yes, but not for awhile. I have so many more drinks to review for you all! You should definitely try it though if you like tea, milk tea, or just want to try something new.
